New Acoustic Analysis Task Led by LY Corporation Accepted for DCASE 2026 Challenge
January 19, 2026
Task proposal led by LY Corporation employees accepted for the world's largest international competition in acoustic events and scene analysis — Japanese researchers lead a global team to pioneer the forefront of acoustic analysis AI.
LY Corporation is pleased to announce that the task proposal "Audio Moment Retrieval from Long Audio," submitted by company employees Hokuto Munakata and Tatsuya Komatsu, has been accepted for the DCASE 2026 Challenge (Detection and Classification of Acoustic Scenes and Events 2026) (external link), the premier international competition in the field of acoustic events and scene analysis. The proposal was developed primarily by LY Corporation employees in collaboration with researchers from world-leading institutions, including Kyoto University, Tampere University (Finland), and Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria).
The DCASE Challenge, recognized by the IEEE Audio and Acoustic Signal Processing Technical Committee, is a premier competition in acoustic recognition. The accepted task aims to accurately retrieve specific moments from long audio recordings using natural language queries, advancing AI for natural language acoustic analysis. This work will serve as a foundation for tasks such as sound event detection and summarization, driving more sophisticated acoustic understanding across various services.
The acceptance of this task is a direct result of LY Corporation researchers building robust partnerships with world-class international research institutions and leading global discourse. By defining new frontiers ahead of the curve, LY Corporation remains committed to making significant contributions from Japan to the global evolution of this field.
